Meet the Directors

Jolene Giles has been the Centre Director for Akerley Child Care for the past year. She graduated from St. Joseph’s College of Early Childhood Education with her ECE in 1997.
Over the past 12 years she has worked in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as a substitute ECE, term ECE, full time ECE, Educational Assistant with the school board, head teacher at a Developmental Centre, and now a teacher for the Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education and a Centre Director.
Jolene enjoys working with a team of professionals supporting the students, children, and families at the Akerley Child Care Centre Lab School.

Joelle Rowlings is the Centre Director for the Leeds Street Lab School location. She earned her Early Childhood Education Diploma from St. Joseph’s College in 1993 and has since been working in the childcare field gaining valuable experience working with young children.
She first came to work for NSCECE in 2001 at our former location at Bell Road. In 2002 she returned to work at the Akerley location in the infant room and then the preschool room, before taking on the role as Centre Director in 2004. After returning to work from having her third child she assumed the role of Centre Director at the Leeds Street location in July 2006. Joelle continues to work to be successful in her role as Director with her close-knit ‘second family’ at Leeds Street.
Joelle is proud to support the staff and children in aesthetically-pleasing, open and warm environment to offer the best programs based on the observed interests of the children- highlighting the Lab schools’ philosophy of ‘Emergent Curriculum.’

Cathy Ramos has been working in the field of child care for more than 14 years. She has two degrees from MSVU and is currently working to attain her Masters Degree in Child and Youth Studies from the Mount. She also has an MDW (Management Development for Women) Certificate from MSVU and SMU.
Her experiences as an ECE include working with all age groups of children and in administration as Assistant Director and Program Coordinator. Cathy joined the team of NSCECE in May of 2007 when she became the Director of Mawio’mi Child Care Centre at NSCC’s Waterfront Campus. In addition to this very busy and exciting position, Cathy is also a part-time faculty and practicum supervisor at NSCECE.
